I have a solution that works 90% of the time for me.

The first way:

1. When you see the amber light, open the driver recovery program.
2. Install the Broadcom wireless driver, do not click finish.
3. On the task bar, right click the driver recovery and click close.
4. Put the computer in sleep mode, and after about 10 flashes of the power light, wake it up.
5. Log in, and you should see something that says installing drivers in the bottom right corner of the screen.
6. If, after that, your wireless light is blue and it will not detect wireless networks, reinstall the driver once again and close the program, do not click finish.
7. It should work after that.

The second way:

If the first way does not work, do this:

1. Run the driver recovery and reinstall the broadcom driver.
2. Click Finish and reboot PC.
3. Wait until computer is fully started up, and put it in sleep mode.
4. After approx. 15-20 mins, wake it up.
5. Once again, you should see it installing the drivers in the bottom right corner.

You may need to repeat these steps a couple times, but they usually work, enjoy!
btw, I have a dv9000 with the same problems, so I know what you’re talking about.

I found the same solution for my DV6000 that had the same issues, it's not just the DV9x series. HP did not send notice that they would repair, or that there were even issues reported. In fact when I first called for help I was told that my unit was out of warranty and the call ended. After unsuccessfully replacing the wireless card, and not being able to update BIOS due to no internet connection, I finally found the site linked below. They said that my notebook is in fact under the limited warranty and I'm getting it fixed no charge. I recommend everyone who has this problem call HP after reading the information!

Excellent fix. I only had the Lower filters with Code 19, the problem just randomly popped up one day on my laptop. Either way, its sorted now. Cheers for an easy fix!

Purchased DV9000 laptop Dec. 2006, which came with 1 year warranty. Then, purchased add'tl 3 year extended warranty through Circuit City's Fire Dog for nearly $250. In Sept, CC sent laptop off for a month - repair not free - considered "accidental damage" - not under extended warranty (major loophole) and it would cost me $348. In Oct, I went to pick up the broken laptop at CC store, and the manager on duty had me wait 45 minutes prior to me getting my laptop back (only 1 customer had checked out in line). Two days later, CC sale clerk called to say that situation was cleared up & CC would pick up the service fee. I clarified with the clerk 3x prior to it being shipped off (again) that there would be no fee on my part. Now, in Nov, once again there is the fee & sales clerk said his hands are tied. Today, off to pick up broken HP laptop. Moral of the blog - make sure there are no stipulations with an extended warranty AND don't purchase anymore HP laptops.

Well, I had to update my BEFW11S4's firmware to get it to work for changing the device IP, otherwise it wouldn't let me log in under the new IP heh New firmware totally changed the layout, but added some new features. I got it configured and I'm online, but oddly the connection icon in the task bar can't "connect" :| Hit repair and it still doesn't work o_0 To make things weirder, my computer's IP address is 192.168.0.2... Which I'd figure that due to making the starting IP (which gets grayed out after disabling DHCP) would start @ 155. Even if that wasn't the case, I'd have thought that since the device IP being 192.168.1.xxx would make my IP a 192.168.1.xxx. I have to go check the laptop to see if the WiFi works now though. Thanks for this write up! I happened to stumble on it when researching something else on this M1000 heh Probably would've gone nuts if I wasn't able to set it up!! So again, thank you :)
