Windows Vista Slow

Is Windows Vista Slow for you.  Well you are not alone.  Many people have discovered that the hardware requirements are far more demanding for Vista the XP.  It used to be a Gig of memory was enough but for any person out there that has under 3 gigs of memory you really should consider upgrading your memory. This is just one small factor to why Windows Vista is So Slow.

To see what kind of memory your computer takes and what you currently have here are some links to check out.  they open in a new window so you do not loose your place.

Kingston mem configurator : Just pick your brand and enter your model.  From there you can see exactly what your computer can hold.  Buying online will save you some bucks.  We normally purchase hardware from. www.tigerdirect.com.  FYI  Go with a 2G DDR2 stick and not a 1G DDR2 stick.  The price difference is not much and if this memory configurator says your computer can hold it then that is what you want.

To see how much memory is currenlty installed on your computer hit the windows start button and then right click on COMPUTER and select “Properties”.  A new window will open and you can read din there how much memory you have installed.

Memory is not the only reason why Windows Vista is Slow.  There are as always many facotrs. One of the biggest things you can do on your computer is get a tune-up for it.  Places like this COMPUTER REPAIR site can help out big time.  They remote into your computer and can fix just about anything.  They do computer tune-ups for only 89 bucks.  It’s a great way to get those quick fixes with out having to pay those high prices.  Besides having a pro check it out you can also consider a registry cleaning program like Registry Mechanic.  We have a direct link to the free trail here at Registry Mechanic.  You have to make a purchase to do the registry cleanign but many of the optimization features are unlocked and ready to use.  It’s a great program that we have been using for years and have found it can speed your comptuer by up to 30%.  For what this program does it’s a great buy.

My Computer is Slow

Why is my computer slow?  That has to be one of the most asked computer repair questions I get.  The best explanation I can give is by making an analogy.  You own a car right?  well every 4000 miles or 3 months you do an oil change to keep your car running smooth.  Then once a year you take it in or at least you should tak it in and get a tune-up done.  All the fluids get checked and if need be you replace the parts needed.

Your computer is no different.  The only difference is it’s on the software side.  Places like your registry need to be cleaned and oiled every few moths to keep your computer runnign smooth.  This helps stop the crashes and will also speed your computer up.

There are several other items that need to be addresses as well.  One of the most important is removing auto starting programs.  Yes you may use adobe and office and photo software as well as a slue of other tools but these programs don’t need to auto start.  Well most programs now adays pre-cache so when you do open them up they open faster.  These programs need to be removed and that alone can make your computer roar again.

Other such things like defrag and the removal of junk temp files will also help to speed your copmuter up.

So the next time someone at work asks why my computer is slow? you can give them a great answer.

Now onto how to speed your computer up!  This is the real part you have been waiting for.  We recommend one of two things or you can always do both.  The first is to download a copy of Registry Mechanic.  This stuff is gold all by itself.  They offer a free trial and it tkaes like 10 seconds to install so you should check it out.  While it will not fix anything you can still demo it out and do the registry scan and hit the computer optimize section.  This is an all in one tool that works wonders on peoples computers.  We use it out in the field to help speed up clients copmuters and yes it works with Vista and XP.

The other method does cost more money but works better.  The reason it works better is because you have a pro do a computer tune-up for you.  The place to go is www.onlinecomputerrepair.org.  We have been sending people their way for years.  This is by far the best online computer repair company we have ever come across.  They remote into your computer and do the tune-up or repair right then and there.  It’s a great way to go and for a third of the cost of having a computer tech out to your house.

regardless of what method you choose you should get a tune-up done once a year or at least every other year.  This will ensure your computer stays problem free.  By taking a pro active role you can keep your copmuter from slowing down.

Clean Vista Registry

With Vista taking a steady hold on the market it seems many people out there want to know the best way to clean the Vista registry.  It is very important to keep you registry clean and the Vista OS is no exception.  After testing several tools out in Vista we have finally found the one that takes the cake.  It was the first tool we tried and the reason is simple.  It’s from the smae makers to the only anti-virus and anti-spyware software we promote on this site.  The program is called Registry Mechanic and it really does work wonders.  With this automatic registry repair and Vista cleaning tool it is hard to mess things up.  when you scan using registry mechanic you get to backup you registry before any thing is done.  This simple yet important step is missing on many of the free clients out there.  After the scan you simply have to hit one button to do a repair and removal of invalid entries.  This program also features many other do it yourslef tools to help speed up your computer and maximize it’s performance.

THe guy took the cake because it takes no computer knowledge to use this program.  It really is that simple to use.  Great advances have been made in this product since is first came out and for the most part it is all automated.  You say yes I want to optimize my computuer and Registry Mechanic gets to work.

Not everyone is comfortable messing with their own computer.  I know far too many people that tend to push way too many buttons.  registry Mechanic takes the fear out of things so you do not have to think twice.

For those that are still hesatent to even use this program you can also just download the free trial and install it and run thhe scan.  No it wont’ remove or do anything for you untill you purchase it but you can at least see for yourself how easy it is to use.

If you are still on the call about things but know your computer needs a little help then consider having a pro take a look at it.  As always we have a place for you to go.  Head over to this SLOW COMPUTER reapiar site.  These guys can remote into your computer and take care of everything for you for 89 bucks.  It’s far cheaper then calling a tech out to the home and the results are great. Easy on the wallet and a great service for those that need a computer tune-up.

Anonymous Web Surfing for IE and firefox

We came across an interesting product last week that we had to check out. The program is called GhostSurf and allows you to surf the web anonymously. Some other added benefits is the ability to Encrypt Your Connection while at the same time hiding your tracks on the internet.

The bellow was taken from their site and describes what this product is all about.

Be invisible on the Internet. Web sites, advertisers, hackers, even snooping friends and family can easily watch your Web surfing. Information you type into Web sites, including your name, address and credit card number is often sent unprotected and can be read by others as it travels over the Web. Hackers can use your IP address to launch attacks against your computer, causing damage or allowing theft of your data.

At the same time, your PC automatically collects and stores information about your online activities. This data is visible to anyone with access to your machine. GhostSurf 2005 is the answer.

GhostSurf provides an anonymous Internet connection to let you surf the Web invisibly. It works with all Web browsers, and also supports instant messengers, newsgroups feeds and popular chat programs. GhostSurf 2005 also erases all of your Internet tracks. Items such as your Web history, cache, clipboard, and cookies can be electronically shredded.

That is the real question. We spent the money and tried it out on XP and Vista as well as the browsers this program works in. This is a very simple program that will work great for those wanting to hide their internet tracks and even for online marketers as they can switch out IP’s. The one down side is some of the proxies used were a little slow. If you plan on downloading a large file then you should consider switching this off while you do that. Most web surfers will not notice much of a lag if any but we came across one such proxy that was a little slow. After we switched to another their was no problem.

All in all this is a great little tool to use and worth the price. Check them out over at www.tenebril.com/consumer/ghostsurf/ghostsurf_standard.php

QuarkXPress to Adobe

Q2ID (QuarkXPress to Adobe InDesign) is an Adobe plug-in for InDesign and works for CS2 and CS3.  For the cost it is one of the few programs out there hat is worth purchasing.  With just a single click you can convert Quark XPress to adobe and keep page positioning, color models, fonts and styles, images, and text attributes as well as tables, layers, blends, runarounds, linked text boxes & anchored boxes, pantone colors and other color models.

The time this program will save you is a no brainer for the cost.  Anyone out there that does this for a living needs a program like Q2ID. this program is comptable with Mac, XP and Vista and all OS variations of QuarkXPress.

A little known tip is if your border line you can see the demo on the www.markzware.com/ website and even contact them for a trial version.  This is one of those must have tools for any pro in the field

What To Do After Your Computer Crashes

Do you often experience computer freezes and crashes?

Have you ever lost important information stored on your PC due to a system crash?

If your answer is yes, then keep reading. This article deals with common causes of system crashes and specific methods to fix windows freeze problems and prevent system crashes by maintaining a healthy and error-free system.

If the performance of our system deteriorates and you encounter an unexpected system crash, it may be due to some kind of malware infection present on your system. Some of the malware programs include viruses, worms, Trojans, spyware, and adware. Malware can enter into your system through various mediums including unsecure Internet connections, open network shares, spam e-mails and e-mail attachments. Where spyware programs secretly attack your system and start stealing all important information from the system, virus and Trojan files start multiplying as soon as the enter your system and immediately fill up the entire network with scores of malicious files. If there is a severe virus attack, these files are likely to cause significant damage to your computer.  They may even wipe your hard disk completely and cause data loss.

To prevent these problems, you can use antivirus and antispyware tools. If you want to maintain an error-free system, it is important that you have both of these tools on your system. You must ensure that you regularly update the definitions of these tools. These tools are equipped with a real-time feature, which can be enabled to provide round-the-clock malware protection to your PC. You must also run periodic full system scans to eliminate any malicious information that might enter your system despite of all these protective measures.

If you are witnessing a slow but continuous decline in your computer’s performance, it’s usually due to problems in the Windows registry and the hard disk of your PC. You are likely to face registry-related problems in your computer when your registry is flooded with unwanted, archaic, and inaccurate registry entries. Therefore, the increasing size of the registry makes it unstable and might cause severe damage to its files. You may also encounter several computer errors such as DLL errors and driver errors. Therefore, it is important to maintain a clutter-free registry by compressing its files, decreasing its size and removing unwanted data from it. This can be done with the help of an effective registry cleaner tool, which is compatible with your Windows operating system. This tool allows you to perform the following tasks:

  • Scan and eliminate redundant information from your system’s registry.
  • Fix invalid registry entries.
  • Defrag the registry and compress the size of its files.
  • Backup the registry to ensure that it’s easily restored if the system crashes.

If you perform the above tasks, you can optimize the registry of your system and also enhance the speed of your computer.

The growth of unwanted files and fragmented data on your hard disk can also lead to hard disk problems. This can severely affect the performance of your system and is likely to cause physical damage to the hard disk. However, you can prevent these problems by following a few simple Windows repair methods. The hard disk problems can be fixed using the Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter tools, which are available with your Windows XP and Vista operating system. While the Disk Cleanup tool allows you to remove unwanted files from system’s hard disk, the Disk Defragmenter tool helps you to reinstate the contiguity of fragmented files on your Windows PC.
