There are always new and improved anti spyware programs being released onto the market, so it is always a good idea to keep an eye open for what is new and advanced in the world of anti spyware programs. To date however, there are a few anti spyware programs in particular that you should really consider. We will cover a few free based programs and some paid services. For a full listing check out our spyware review page.
Spybot Search & Destroy is one anti spyware program that most computer users have at least heard of before. It is definitely one of the most effective and reputable in the industry, and it known for catching most infections. As well, the SDHelper and TeaTimer functions offered by the program help significantly in terms of keeping downloaded software from being able to root itself onto your drive. This is a free based program that does a good job. If you are already infected often times it can not remove all the spyware. I would down load it and run it anyways. Keep in mind the tea timer always runs and that is the portion that blocks new programs from being installed. You can always disable this portion if you do not like it.
Microsoft Windows Defender is another of the top anti spyware programs, and is actually considered as being even more thorough than the Spybot option. It is included in Windows Vista and free to download, and works well as part of a combination defense, with other similar programs. I have found that it can be a little bit of a headache to run and can slow your computer down. You can also download this program for free for XP.
Mcafee is worth mentioning because most Comcast and qwest subscribers get this program for free. While the newest version is good it really lacks in the spyware department. If you are already infected do not expect this program to remove all your spyware. It does however do a great job of blocking spyware from being installed in the first place.
Spyware Doctor is one of my favorite. It has a very easy to use interface and seems to get more spyware then most programs. The cost is around 30 bucks a year which is well within range of most spyware programs.
Webroot Spysweeper is second on my list. This is another great program designed for spyware removal. The user interface is great. The program over all will remove most spyware if not all and is highly recommended.
AVG spyware is another free based program that does a good job but really no were near the protection you really need. It will catch a good 70% of all spyware programs but it tends to crash out now and again and you are forced to re-install.
Ad-Aware is another free based program. It has been recently revamped and they have a free and paid version. You can still run a scan and remove spyware but you are constantly asked to purchase the program. All in all for it being free it does a great job.
