Got To Backup My PC: Now More Than Ever
Here’s some free advice – always make copies of your vital computer data. You might think. "I'll never need to backup my PC", but that’s just tempting Fate. This writer lost everything on her computer when I moved in with someone else and forgot to make copies of my creative writing. The fact that most of my early creative writing stunk is not the point – the point is accidents and ex-lovers happen. I wish I could go back in time to backup my PC.
Computers are great, but they can break. Make copies of not just creative writing, but your online photo albums, any bookkeeping records, your mP3 music library – anything that would cost a lot in money or time to replace. According to a recent Harris poll, 43% of laptop users have lost valuable data to crashes, system failures or viruses. I bet you they are all saying now, "I should have backed up my PC!"
Enter Acronis Software
One easy way I can now backup my PC, including my creative writing as well as email contacts and current PC software, is with the use of Acronis backup software. I can backup my PC at any time – instead of one time only, like with most online backup services. I can also get reminders of when it's time to do another backup.
There are many online backup services out there. Many offer a couple of free gigabytes of storage space for you, and then you have to pay a monthly fee for anything over your limit. These fees vary, but usually the more you need to store, the more you'll have to pay. You can only put your most precious files on it, for that space fills up fast. Only you can access this file bank on their website.
If you're not sure Acronis backup software is for you, you don’t have to make a big commitment to it right away. You can download a free trail version from their website at www.acronis.com. They make several versions, but there is one just for home PCs and not for major business PCs.
Award Winning
I wouldn't backup my PC without doing a little detective work on the software company. (You can blame my ex for that paranoia.) Acronis has won many wards for its computer backup software, including a finalist for the 2008 Info Security Products Guide for Outstanding Product. It's also won the Editor's Choice award from Personal Computer World.
